The Irish Whiskey made by a Scot.

People have always asked me if I was from the Jameson family that makes Irish Whiskey. I would say no, I’m Scottish, that’s why my name has an “a” instead of the “e”. Fast forward to Summer 2019. We are in Scotland, at the Gunn Clan museum which is my family’s clan.

Come to find out, we Jamasons spell our name wrong. But they told me that’s okay, there are lots of different spellings. We are still all related; Jameson, Jamason, Jamieson and Jamison. Our genealogy shows we all come from this part of Scotland. North, way north and descended from Vikings.

A week or so later we are in Dublin, Ireland. We just had to visit the Jameson Distillery. Fortunately they were very detailed in their history. They also serve whiskey at 10:30 in the morning. So when in Dublin… Anyway, turns out that John Jameson, of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey fame, was born in Scotland. And Liam bears a strong resemblance.

We really enjoyed our tour and they even made a point that I shared the founders name. Weeks later, after returning home with these facts I was able to fill some holes in my family tree. It looks, after all, as though we are descended from the whiskey John; through his grandson George who was born in Ireland, but died in Vermont as my 5th great grandfather. So all this time I have been telling people I have nothing to do with the Irish Whiskey and that I’m not even Irish. Turns out I am related to to the Scottish Irish Whiskey Jameson.

Can you believe they didn’t give me a discount in the gift shop?

Next post: Our visit to Luke Skywalker’s island; so glad Mark Hammil wasn’t there.
